Things I'm Loving: DIY Baby Ideas

Up until about a week or so ago I have been sick, sick, and sick this pregnancy!

Between hugging the toilet and my many naps I haven't had much time to start on any projects; but it hasn't kept me from pinning many ideas!

In two weeks we will know if Baby L is a boy or a girl, and then we'll start on the nursery! I'll also begin crafting away!!

Valentines Inspired Rose Rings

One of the most popular tutorials I have created is the Ribbon Rose Ring Tutorial.

I love to make these rings,and I have them in many different colors.

I thought I would start February off my sharing three of my recent rings, which seem very fitting for Valentines Day!

Cork and Doily Coasters

I am in love with the look of these coasters. The texture of the cork and the doilies together is just absolutely wonderful!

What you'll need:

Tacky Glue
Round Cork Coasters (Mine were 4")
Small Round Doilies
Mod Podge
2 brushes

To start you want to take one of your doilies and place it right side down. In the middle of the doily swirl on some Tacky Glue. Swirl the glue onto the coaster as well.

Place the glued side of the doily down onto the glued side of the coaster.

Press firmly to ensure the doily is secure. Let it sit until completely dry.

Lightly coat the coaster with Mod Podge. I just used a large paint brush for this part of the project.

Leave to dry for 24 hours.

After that your coasters are ready to use!

2 More Feet

Yes that's right! In July our family is growing by 2 feet!

Baby L is expected on the 4th of July! My husband and I could not be more thrilled to take on this next adventure in our lives together!

The first trimester was rough, and I was very very sick everyday for the first few months. Thankfully I have been feeling much better now and I'm looking forward to jumping back into blogging! Things will be returning to normal around here!

Well hello there December?!

It sure seemed to come by quick this year, or is it just me?

November was a crazy whirlwind kind of a month, and I'm still having a hard time understanding how it is possibly December already!

It came up so quick, that we haven't even put our Christmas tree up yet, which in incredibly odd for us, as we almost put it up mid November! Right now, I'm kind of wishing we did!

Just a few things I want to mention about the tutorial before you go check it out.

1. Make sure you line the paper clip up in the correct direction. ~~I didn't do this.~~ Okay, I did.

2. The width of the felt pieces seemed too wide, so I cut it down from the dimensions provided.

Things I'm Loving: Glitter

I love glitter. My husband, not so much. He's my biggest supporter when it comes to crafts and blogging, unless I want to do something with glitter. I don't know exactly what this is all about, but all I can tell you is that when he picks out a greeting card, his biggest consideration is finding one without glitter.

Anyways, I try to stay away from glitter projects that way it's not traced around the house. But there have been some seriously cute ideas using glitter out there lately, so I had to share!

Felt Bunting Necklace

Last week I shared my Felt Bunting Necklace with Alyssa and her followers over at Live. Love. Craft.

I thought I would post the full tutorial here for you all as well!

It's perfect for fall right?

What you'll need:

Felt
Pinking Shears
Jump Rings
Head Pins
Beads
Something to poke holes
Needle Nose Pliers
Wire Cutters
Chain
Clasp

To start you will want to cut your triangles out of felt. Cut 5 larger triangles, and 5 smaller triangles.

I cut them with my pinking shears, but if you don't have any you could certainly use scissors.

Next lay a larger triangle down, right side up, and then place a smaller triangle also right side up on top of it.

Now you are going to want to make two holes. I used my metal hole punch, but you could use a pin or a seam riper.

Open up one of your jump rings.

Place the jump ring through the hole you created in both layers of felt.

Repeat on the other side.

Place each jump ring into one of the chain links, and close the jump rings.

Repeat, the above steps 4 times, until you have 5 sets of triangles on the chain.

Take one of your head pins, and add a pearl.

Using your needle nose pliers, bend the wire 90 degrees.

Clip the wire.

Holding the end of the wire bend backwards to create a loop.

Place on a jump ring.

Add to your chain in between a set of triangles. Repeat 5 more times so you have a pearl in between each set and on each end.

Add your clasp to the end of the chain, and you're finished!

It makes me happy inside, I love how it turned out!

Rose Trim Earrings Tutorial

Monday, I mentioned that I had lots of questions about what to do with the fabulous and fun rose trim! Today I'm going to share with you my third idea!

Here is my first project: Rose Trim Bracelet

My second Project: Rose Trim Pins

And today I'll show you how to make lovely Rose Trim Earrings.

What you'll need:

Rose Trim
Scissors
Hot Glue
Post Pad Earrings

Start by cutting two roses out of your rose trim.

Place a dab of hot glue on your post pad earring.

Secure onto the back of one of your roses.

Repeat for your other earring.

Put them on and enjoy!

I think they are just lovely!

The rose trim is very versatile!

Rose Trim Pin Tutorial

So many of you loved my Rose Trim Bracelet, and I got quite a few questions about it!

One of the questions I was e-mailed a lot about was other ideas for what to do with the trim.

This weekend I played around with the rose trim, and came up with two more fun ideas!

Today I'll be sharing how to make Rose Pins using the trim!

What you'll need:

Rose Trim- I purchased mine at Joann's and Hobby Lobby
Pin
Hot Glue
Scissors

You're trim may have excess tulle around the roses, so you will want to cut and trim the tulle around the edges.

Cut out one of your roses.

Take your pin and apply hot glue to the plastic base. I bought these at Hobby Lobby.

Glue to the back of the rose.

That's it, they are so simple and fun to make!

And there are so many fun ways you can style them!

You can add them to your purse or tote bag.

Add a fun pop to a hat.

Or add a splash of color to your outfit!

The past few months have been difficult months for me, struggling through two miscarriages. But one thing has remained strong and that is my faith in God. He has been an amazing source of comfort for me during this time, and I know that he has the perfect plan for me and my family. As a Christian it is never promised that I will not go through difficult and challenges times, BUT it is promised that God will never leave me or forsake me. I know that he is with here with me as I grieve, learn and grow from my experiences.

What Makes a Mother {PRINTABLE}

Today is Pregnancy Loss Awareness Day.

To read more about my story, and why this day is so meaningful to me go ahead and check out yesterday's post here.

Today I wanted to share a lovely poem that really touched me. It is called "What Makes a Mother" written by an anonymous author.

I also created a printable based off of one of my favorite lines in the poem.
It's hard to see on the screen, but the pink has a fun texture to it, that looks really neat when it's printed!

WhatMakes A Mother

I thought of you and closed my eyes
And prayed to God today

A Piece of My Story

Tomorrow October 15th is Pregnancy Loss Awareness Day and October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. One out of every four women will experience the loss of a baby at some point in there lives. This is 25% of women out there who go through this heart break, and sadly many do it alone. While pregnancy loss is common, it is rarely talked about.

Sadly, I am one of these women. This year I have lost two sweet babies to miscarriage. You can read my story here on Faces of Loss Faces of Hope. This is a wonderful organization that helps and support women through their time of grief by connecting them to other women going through the same struggles.

I hope you don't mind me straying from my regular crafty posts today and sharing more about who I am. My heart breaks for anyone who has gone through miscarriage, still birth or infant loss so I am sending you a big virtual {HUG}

Pom Pom Cowl Tutorial

Recently I discovered a beautiful scarf at Down East Basics, I loved the decorative pom pom edge on the scarf, but I wanted something a bit more feminine so I decided to make my own!

Here is my inspiration:

I've been loving hounds tooth pint so I feel in love with this fabric instantly when I was shopping at Joann's last week!

What you'll need:

1/2 Yard of Fabric
8 Feet of Decorative Pom Pom Trim
Scissors
Pins
Sewing Machine

I started with 1/2 yard of pre-washed and ironed fabric. I trimmed the edges and then cut my fabric in half.

I was left with two rectangles of fabric that measure 23" x 43".

Lay your first piece down right side up.

Starting 2 inches from the end add your decorative pom pom trim so the pom poms are facing inward. Stop 2 inches from the other end and pin down.

Sew down that side.

Repeat on the other side.

Lay the second piece of fabric right side down, and pin.

Sew down each side.

Flip right side out.

Fold one end inside and press.

Take the other end and place inside the end you just folded and pressed.

Sew across.

Fun, simple, cute and of coarse girly!

Decorative Fabric Letter

The Black and White Photo wall in our dining room needed a little something more, so I made this fabulous letter to add some texture.

It cost me nothing because I had all of the supplies on hand!

What you'll need:

Fabric
Styrofoam
Exacto or similar knife
Scissors
Spray Adhesive

To start draw your letter onto the Styrofoam. I just used a ruler to draw out my lines.

Cut your letter out using an Exacto or similar knife.

***This is how I hung my letter, you could of coarse do it another way***

I didn't have anything to hang my letter with so I did so in a sort of unconventional way.

First I nailed my hole in the wall, and then removed the nail.

Before I coated my letter in fabric I place the nail through the Styrofoam.

With the nail pierced through the Styrofoam I continued with my project.

Cut your fabric. I didn't cut to the exact shape, my fabric looks roughly like and "L" at this point, but there is plenty of excess fabric.

Coat the front of your letter with spray adhesive then lay your fabric on top of your Styrofoam letter.

Once it has dried turn the fabric and letter right side down.

Trim the edges of the fabric leaving enough room for them to reach the back of the letter. Wrap your fabric around the letter to the back. Spray the fabric and then seal to the Styrofoam.

Once your letter is dry go ahead and hang it!

I just had to line up my nail to the hole I created in the wall!

How He Loves Us {Video}

I love this song, and there is such an amazing story behind it!

It just reminds me that that God is a God of mercy, grace and unconditional love. It is truly amazing how much he loves us, even when we may seem "unlovable". His grace is amazing.

Rose Trim Bracelet

Last night I was at Joann's in search of some fabric for a project I'm planning next week. While I was browsing the trim section I came across this beautiful, delicate rose trim. I wanted to buy it all in every color, but thankfully my husband was there to restrain me. So I bought 1/2 yard in pink. But I'll be going back!

I decided to use the trim to make this lovely bracelet in the perfect color. So sweet, so lovely, so me!

I know you're all dying to make one too! So hurry and go buy some trim before I clear it all out.

I'm kidding. ~~Kind of.~~

Anyways, here's what you'll need:

Rose Trim
2 Ribbon Clamps
2 Jump Rings
Clasp
Needle Nose Pliers

Start by wrapping the trim around your wrist and then cutting to the desired length. 1/4 probably all you will need.

Take your ribbon clamp and with your needle nose pliers clamp it down on one side. Easy!

Repeat on the other side.

Open one of your jump rings and place around the loop on one of the ribbon clamps. Add your bracelet clasp and then close the jump ring.

Add your jump ring to the other side.

That's it!

If you want to make one as a gift and you don't know the measurement of the wrist you are making it for you could easily add a chain to one of the ribbon clamps and make it adjustable!

Fabric Scrap Bunting Cards

One thing I love to do is make handmade cards for birthdays and other holidays!

I have been loving the look of bunting banners and thought it would be perfectly sweet on a card.

They can be customized for any holiday or event, and are VERY simple to create!

First you'll want to print out this triangle.You can right click and copy the image and then save it to a Word Document to print.

Next you will want to trace this triangle onto your fabric and then cut them out. I used 5 triangles per card.

I dabbed the base of the triangle across the top of a glue stick and then placed it on the card. This helps the triangles from moving out of place when you stitch them on the card. Be sure not to glue the whole thing down, just the top.

Once all your triangles have been placed and secured you are going to stitch them to the card. I did this with my machine.

Like I promised, very sweet and easy!

You can switch it up and customize your cards so easily. For another card I used pinking shears to add a cute decorative edge.

Or you could use a sweet fall color scheme, and add rick rack across the top!

Scissor Storage {My Craft Corner}

You may or may not have noticed my scissor storage in my craft corner reveal post on Monday.

Here's where it sits on my desk.

I was inspired by the centerpieces I made for my wedding, which were very similar, but instead of displaying scissors I displayed candles!

My scissors are very easy to access, but even better it is beautiful!

No Sew Fabric & Ribbon Banner

Yesterday I revealed my crafting space and this no sew banner happens to be one of my favorite parts!

It's super simple to make and can add a lot to a space.

What you'll need:

Fabric & Ribbon
Yarn or String
Hot Glue
Scissors

First cut your yarn or string to the length that you need for your space.

Cut your ribbon and fabric pieces. Mine were all varying widths but I cut the length to 11 inches.

Starting in the center of your yarn or string and fold your first ribbon or fabric strand over the yarn.

Using a dab of hot glue secure the fabric or ribbon.

Continue moving out from the center until you reach about 3 inches from the end on each side.

Hang the banner in your space and enjoy!

My Craft Corner

Now when I say craft corner, I literally mean a corner in one room! Our master bedroom is huge and this corner by the closet is the perfect space for me to work on all of my projects!

I wanted to keep the desk simple and clutter free so I have lots of space to work on projects.

Some of my craft materials are stored on the shelf, but a lot of it is in the closet! I'll share more on how it's all organized later this week!

You may recognize the cork boards, as I created a tutorial for them a few weeks ago. You can find that here.

This week I will be going over a few features of the space along with a tutorial for my fabulous No Sew Fabric & Ribbon Banner - so stay tuned!

Doily Envelopes

Fabric Bow Earrings

These earrings are so tiny and sweet!

They take up just a tiny bit of fabric, and are a great way to use left over scraps!

What you'll need:

Fabric Scraps
Post Pad Earrings
Hot Glue
Crochet Hook
Needle and Thread and or Sewing Machine

To start cut one square inch of fabric

Fold in half with right sides together.

Leaving a small inseam stitch along the side.
{I used my machine, but it would be very easy to do by hand also}

Insert your crochet hook in the tube and pull through.

Fold in the ends and stitch closed.

Pinch the middle of the fabric and add a few stitches.

Cut a piece of fabric that is 1" x .5"

Fold in half with wrong sides together and stitch along the side.

Position fabric so the seam is in the center back.

Wrap around the bow. Using your needle and thread add a few stitches in the back to secure. Knot, tie off and clip your thread.

Add a dab of hot glue to your post pad earring.

Secure the bow to the earring.

Make you're second earring.

Aren't they just perfect?

Tissue Paper Pom-Poms {From my Wedding}

It always reminds me of my wedding, which was two years ago on June 27th, 2009!

Most everything that day was DIY, and it is really what spiraled me into this crafting world!

DIY Feather Extensions

Not too long ago I came across this fabulous tutorial for DIY Feather Hair Extensions! I was very excited to give it a try as I have not wanted to shell out the cash to a salon for them!

I jumped on Etsy, ordered my feathers and put them in myself with no problem!

In that post I had mentioned that I wasn't sure what to hang next to the letters. Well yesterday afternoon I was organizing some craft/random decor stuff and inspiration hit. I found a white frame I had painted last year and left over cork board from my post here.

I put two and two together, and it came out perfect!

{EAT} Kitchen Decor

Recently my husband and I moved into a larger space. I was very excited that we also got a larger kitchen! This is one of the last rooms I have left to decorate and I thought I would start with some fun decorative letters!

They are very simple to make; all you need are some wood letters, scrapbook paper, scissors, a pencil, spray adhesive, and maybe some decorative accents.

First you will want to lay your scrapbook paper face down, and then place the letter right side down on top of it. You will want to do this on a hard surface.

Trace around the letter with a pencil.

Cut the letter out of the scrapbook paper.

Coat the front wood letter with spray adhesive.

Begin at the top and slowly press the scrapbook paper onto the wood letter. Be VERY careful as the paper will stick quickly!

If you want you can add some embellishments and then complete the rest of the letters!

I chose not to add any embellishments as the patterns on the scrapbook paper were fairly busy!

Mine will soon be hanging on the wall in the kitchen. I am still working on a few ideas of what I can hang next to them. Any thoughts??

Simple Fleece Pillow

I was browsing Target ~~one day,~~ okay, so I browse Target A LOT! But this one particular day I came across a fun gray pillow! It was made of fleece so I knew that it would be super cheap and easy to make on my own!

I whipped out my cell phone took a picture and was off to the craft store!

The pillow at Target was $14.99 and I made mine for $1.50 because I only had to buy the fleece (I had the stuffing on hand at home).

You'll need:

Fleece - 1/4 yard
Fiber Fill
Sewing Machine/Thread
Scissors
Button

To start you want to cut the fleece for your pillow. I used one piece of fabric that measured 33" x 9".

Fold the fabric with right sides together.

Pin and stitch around all four sides using a 1/4" in seam. Leave a gap large enough to for your hand to fit in for stuffing on the short side. Flip right side out.

Now, make the flower for the pillow. First you want to cut the fabric strips. Cut 4 strips that measure 1" x 9".

Take one strip and place it right side down. Fold up each end so the ends meet in the middle.

Coming up from the back stitch the two end together with one stitch.

Bring the thread back up through the middle and layer the next strip on top to create an X. Attach the ends together of that next strip using one stitch.

Repeat this once more with the third strip.

Fold your fourth strip the same way, but place it facing down so you cannot see where the ends meet. Attach with a few stitches to the three other pieces .

Stitch on a button in the middle to hide the stitches.

Stitch the flower to the pillow.

Stuff your pillow with fiber fill.

The key to making your pillow lump free is to take your time and separate the fiber so it is not in big clumps.

Stitch closed the opening of the pillow.

Fluff up your pillow and toss it on your couch!

Cupcake Oven Mitt

Pretty sweet isn't it?

I whipped up this sweet little cupcake, perfect to wear in the kitchen!

You need one too?

Okay!

You'll need:

Fabric
Ribbon
Pins
Scissors
Insul-Bright or other Batting
Sewing machine/thread

First you will want to draft your pattern. This is a really simple shape and fairly easy to do.

The most important thing you want to do is make sure that the oven mitt will cover your hand, you can do this easily on an 8 x 11" piece of paper.

I just sketched the pattern and then cut it out. You could even search for clip art online, blow it up and then print it to use as your pattern.

Trace the pattern twice on the fabric that you want to show on the bottom part and the back of your cupcake. You will also want to trace this onto the Insul-Bright.
I did not have any Insul-Bright on hand so I used two layers of batting. I do however, recommend the Insul-Bright for better heat protection!

You will now want to cut your pattern into two pieces. You will cut the top or frosting piece of, so you are left with a semi-circle.

Trace and cut this piece twice on your second fabric choice, and twice on the batting or Insul-Bright.

You should now have all of your pieces.

Take the smaller pieces and place them right side together and place the batting on top. Pin the pieces together.

Stitch around all sides using a 1/4" seam allowance. Be sure to leave a 3" gap at the top.

Flip right side out.

Repeat the above process for the larger pieces, be sure to leave the 3" gap in the same area as you did with the smaller pieces.

Pin the openings on both pieces closed.

Next you want to cut your ribbon. I used red to give my cupcake a cherry on top!

This is the tricky part!

You want to pin the two pieces together, and they still each have a gap on top.

What I find easiest is to lay the two pinned pieces on top of one another and one at a time remove the individual pins then use that same pin to keep the openings closed, but also pin them together.

When you get to the middle of the top fold your ribbon in half and place between the two pieces, and continue pinning.

Sew around the entire border of the cupcake using and 1/8" in seam.

That's it! Now go bake me some cupcakes please!!

Fabric Corkboard

On Friday I posted about my Craft Corner Inspiration Board on Pinterest!

I will be working on the space for the rest of the month and hope to have it completed soon!

I started things off by making a few cork boards for ideas, pictures and other inspirations!

To make these you'll need 3 things:

Fabric- One fat quarter
Cork board
Spray Adhesive

Take your cork board and lay it on a surface such as newspaper or cardboard.

Spray the front of cork board with the spray adhesive, and then adhere the fabric carefully because it will stick very quickly!

Trim the excess fabric from the sides, but leave at least 2 inches on the boarder of every side.

Place the fabric side of the cork board face down. Spray about and inch at the top of the cork board, then fold the fabric over the cork board.

Repeat this for the bottom side of the cork board.

Now you are going to fold the other sides of the fabric over the back of the cork board.

I did this the same way I wrap a present. I first sprayed my adhesive then I folded the corners in to create a triangle, and then folded the fabric up over the back of the cork board.

After that you're done, you just need to let it dry for a little while before hanging!

When I purchased my boards, they came in a package along with some double sided tape for hanging.

I put one square in each corner, and then hung it on the wall next to my craft desk!

Now I have a place for my lists to help keep me on track!

Jeremiah 29:11 has always been my favorite scripture. It helps remind me that God has a good plan for my life even when things are rough.

It is never promised that if we follow God we will never experience trials or hardships in our life, but if we are faithful to God and hold onto Him through our hardships He will be faithful!

Sweet Summer Memories Necklace

I made this lovely necklace as a way to remember some sweet and precious memories of this summer.

I can't believe that summer is already coming to a close, and that tomorrow is the first day of September already!

You want to make on too?

Here's the how to:

You'll need, beads, head or eye pins, jump rings, a chain, glue, needle nose pliers and wire cutters.

First I'll show you how to add the beads to the side of the chain.

First remove one of the links in the chain using your needle nose pliers.

Place 3 beads on an eye pin.

Bend the wire 90 degrees. Then clip so the wire so it is about 1 cm.

Grab the end of the wire with your needle nose pliers and bend backwards to create a loop, but do not yet close the loop fully.

Take the end of the eye pin that is still open and place it on the chain. You can now close that end of the eye pin.

Open the other end of the eye pin slightly with your needle nose pliers and attach to the chain.

You should now have a closed chain.

Next you will want to get the charms ready.

Place one of your beads on an eye or head pin, and repeat the steps above for creating a loop on the other end of the eye pin.

Repeat for the second bead.

For my third bead I used a flower cabochon. To attach the flower to an eye pin I used a dab of glue on one end to secure it.

Repeat the process for creating a loop on the end of the eye pin.

Open a jump ring and place two of the beads on it.

Open a second jump ring and place the loop on the cabochon flower through the jump ring.

One at a time place the jump rings over the chain and close.

Enjoy your beautiful creation!

I absolutely love the way mine turned out!

Memory Wire Bracelet

This memory wire bracelet hardly took any time or supplies and the result is awesome.

What you'll need:

Needle-nose Pliers
Wire Cutters
Memory Wire
Beads

Decide how many times you would like the wire to wrap around your wrist and then cut the wire.

Make a loop on one end.
To do this: On one end hold the wire with your needle nose plies towards the end. Twist backwards and this will create the loop.

Create the desired pattern with your beads and then begin adding them onto the wire. I chose a color scheme and then just randomly added the beads.

Continue until you have reached the end of the wire and then create another loop.

Ta-da.

Gathering your supplies really is the hardest part.

It took me longer to choose my beads than it did for me to make the bracelet!

I'm back after my very crazy weekend!

My husband and I had a lovely time, but we are thankful to be back home.

We drove 48 hours in 4 days, from Arizona to Washington State and then back home.

On our way home my hubby and I decided to drive along the coastal highway for a little while. It had been 2 years since I had seen the ocean, and our time there was wonderful!

We arrived at 5:30am this morning, so I have not yet had time to put the tutorial I had planned for today together, but I will have one ready for Wednesday!

Here are a few pictures from our trip:

On our way there we drove through Idaho. I guess my hubby had never been to Idaho, and for some reason he was way too excited to drive through this state. Potatoes maybe? I'm still not sure on that one.

I didn't take many pictures when we were there, but I have quite a few from our ocean stops on the way home.

If only I could live by the ocean, but keep the Arizona weather.

A girl can dream right?!

Taking a Few Days Off

A very dear friend passed away on Sunday after a courageous two year battle with a brain tumor.

I am taking the rest of the week off to spend time with family, and friends and to celebrate his life and the amazing man that he was!

Heat Therapy Bag

On Friday's I take a fabulous tutorial and make my own version!

Today I got my inspiration here, and I made a heat therapy bag. Well, actually I made two!

They are very simple to make, and in my opinion better than a heating pad!

What you'll need:

Piece of flannel fabric mine was 16 x 9 inches
White Rice (Not instant rice)
Essential Oil (Optional)
Thread and sewing machine

Fold your fabric in half lengthwise with the right sides together.

Leave a 1/4"seam allowance and stitch down the side where the two folded ends meet.

Move the seam to the middle of the rectangle.

Sew down one of the short sides, leaving 1/4" seam allowance.

Flip right side out.

Top stitch on the same short side using an 1/8" seam allowance.

Fill your bag with rice, I used a little under 3 cups.

Add a few drops of essential oil. I used coconut lime!!

Fold the end over and pin.

Leaving a 1/8" seam allowance pin and stitch the other side.

That's all it takes...

To use the therapy bag heat for 1-2 min.
After doing this my kitchen now smells like a beach (or tanning lotion)!

I also made a smaller bag perfect for warming hands. The original fabric piece was 10 x 5 inches for the smaller version.

Feather Earrings

I put together a tutorial for some lovely feather earrings.

They are very simple yet they make a beautiful statement.

I love the look of the simple yet classic white on white look.

What you'll need:

6 Feathers
Hot Glue Gun
Craft Wire
Jump Rings
Needle Nose Pliers
Wire Cutters
Earrings Hooks

First take three of your feathers. Lay one feather right side down. Place a small dab of hot glue on that feather and then lay the next feather right side up on top. Repeat with the third feather.

Clip the ends of the feathers.

Cut a 2" piece of wire.

Bend about 2 cm of the wire down.

Place the end of the wire over the ends of the feather.

Begin to wrap the wire around the top of the feather

Continue until you have reached the end of the wire.

Tuck in end of the wire in.

Open the jump ring and place though the wire on the feather.

Add the earring wire and close the loop.

Repeat all the above steps to create a second earring.

Crochet Stitch Markers

I've spent a lot of time crocheting lately, but I've never actually owned a stitch marker. Usually I just grab a bobby pin to mark my place.

These work wonderfully, they are very easy to place and remove from stitches.

What you will need:

Head Pins
Beads
Jump Rings
Metal Clasps
Needle Nose Pliers
Wire Cutter
Ruler
Sharpie

First choose and place your beads on the head pin.

Bend the pin so it creates a right angle.

Measure out 7mm from the bend and draw a line with a sharpie.

Cut the wire.

Grab the wire with your needle nose pliers and twist back to create a loop.

Take your jump ring and open with your needle nose pliers.

Place the jump ring through the loop you created on the head pin.

Take the metal clasp and put on the jump ring.

Close the jump ring.

Now you have the perfect charm to help keep your place!

Sail Away With Me

Here is a quick tutorial for an adorable necklace.

I found the idea here.

Instead of using linen like the original I used burlap.

What you'll need:

One piece of fabric (3 x 4 inches)
Needle Nose Pliers
Fabric Marker or Paint
Needle and Thread
Jump Rings
Chain

Start by folding your fabric.

You will fold the proper portions and then sew them down. I used my machine, for speed, but you could easily hand stitch.

Draw on your heart. I did not have any fabric paint, so I used nail polish.

Once you have completed this you will need to make a hole for the jump ring.
I used a small hole punch made for metal.

Insert jump ring, and add your chain.

Ahoy mateys!! ~~Oh wait, that's a pirate not a sailor.~~

Either way.... Enjoy your necklace, it's a fun piece!

Two Wheeler Necklace

A few months ago I stumbled across a darling necklace at Anthropologie, and I decided I needed to make my own version!

It is no longer available, so I can't post a link, but I found this picture on Google.

My version is not identical, but just as cute!

What you'll need:

Soft Suede Cord
2 Circular Wood Beads (Wheels)
2 Decorative Metal Pieces (Wheels)
Small Wood Bead (Seat)
Long Thin bead (Handles)
2 Small Jump Rings
Needle Nose Pliers
Chain with Clasp

The Anthro version had a braided rope, I tried to use what I had on hand so I just used the suede cording. I was worried that the frame would be flimsy, but the pieces were small enough that it held it's shape very well.

You will need 6 pieces of the cording. I had three colors and cut two 1" pieces of each.

First you will want to assemble the bike frame. You can use a small amount of hot glue to connected the pieces of cording together.

Next, secure your metal finding to the wood bead.
I had the metal pieces lying around with my beads/ jewelry findings, and I got the small wood beads at Hobby Lobby.

*Since the metal piece I used was so slim I used a tooth pick to apply the glue, and then scrape off the excess dried glue after.

Attach the bike frame to the wheels using hot glue.

Using hot glue add the bike handles and seat. Just one dab on the bead, and then hold to the top of the cording for about a minute to secure. I chose not to include the pedals since the frame and wheel were so close together. I think the pedals would have over crowded.

*At this point I used my fine tip scissors to trim the stringy hot glue.

Once you have the bike assembled, you are going to need to attach it to a chain.

To do this attach a small jump ring around the cording under the seat on the back of the frame and underneath the handle bars in the front.

Next, attach your chain to the jump rings.

I though it was a fun addition to my summery dress!

*Ignore the mess in this picture... we just moved!

I had a lot of fun with this piece, and I can only begin to imagine all the variations! Please e-mail me a picture if you make one!!
